Petty emotions ruin beautiful things

A little while back APOD (the NASA site) featured this absolutely beautiful SciFi view of the future inspired by Carl Sagan.

I noticed today that the video has had its audio voice over by Carl removed. I am unclear why, but the comments on the original Vimeo link suggest its by his estate or the minions of administering that.

The original can be found here: https://vimeo.com/108650530, now sadly minus Carls powerful words. It seems some who had ownership of Carls legacy wanted that removed.

Terrible, I'm sure Carl would be turning in his grave given his sentiment and his passions.

This is still on Youtube (for now) so get it while you can ... before greed destroys art.

To those with greed and selfish driven motivations who required Carls voice to be taken off this recording I leave you with a quote from Carl from Pale Blue Dot:
Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.

breaking the winter ice

There has been a little creek frozen over not far from my home. With the rising temperatures (and the draining of water too it seems) the ice cover collapsed the other day and showed me what was beneath.

the entire underside was filled with hanging curtains of ice ribbons. Up close they were quite beautiful.

I could theorize about how it formed (probably grew from when the water was closer to the ice) but that doesn't make it any less beautiful.

sticking my camera under the ice to look around shows it to be quite a delicate exquisite palace for a mouse.

Just thought I'd share some of the beauty which normally goes unseen.

Beauty and Humanity

Today I was down at the seaway again taking photographs for the 365 project I am in (take a photo a day every day).

I was struck by the amount of lazy asshole fishermen out there stuffing plastic bags in between the rocks or reeling off meters of fishing line.

I can't imagine in this day and age that these shitheads don't know the damage caused to marine life by just this behavior!

Shaking my head I toddle home.

On the way up a quiet street in my neighborhood I see a strange sight. It becomes clearer as I get closer.

It is a man leading a woman who is standing on a skateboard up the road. They are both in their 30's or 40's I guess.

As I pass them I think I recognise them, for I have seen a man walking around these parts with a woman who seems to suffer from a disease such as cerebral paulsy or something debilitating.

My wife and I often saw them crossing the road near this point and we often discussed his dedication to her and giving her quality of life by taking her outside for both exercise and health.

So when I saw them again, I think, yes there are lovely people in the human race to balance out the ignorant.
